Taofik Gani, publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, says the party is better-off without Moshood Salvador, its former chairman.

In a statement on Tuesday, Gani described the defection of Salvador to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as good riddance.

Salvador had defected to APC with “over 10,000 members” of his supporters, saying he was no longer comfortable with “greedy leaders who are fond of telling lies and destabilising the party for their selfish interest”.

He accused the party of abandoning him when he was remanded in Kirikiri prison over the murder of Adeniyi Aborishade, PDP chairman of Apapa local government area.

Aborishade was murdered on July 21, during the PDP visitation meeting that held at Igbosuku Village, Eti-Osa local government area.

An Ikeja high court later dismissed the murder charge filed against Salvador but the experience worsened the crisis in Lagos PDP.

Reacting, Gani said Salvador was being economical with the truth with the claim that he left PDP becuase of Bode George, a leader of the party whom he had been having a running battle with.

The publicity secretary said George was Salvador’s benefactor as he was instrumental to his election as state chairman.

He added that George stood by the former party chairman during his trying times as the leader of the party.

Gani accused Salvador of not being a team player, saying PDP is not demoralised by his exit.
