Electricity distribution companies (DisCos) say power supply has returned to some parts of the country.

The national electricity grid had suffered a system collapse at about 11 am on Monday.

Speaking on the development in a statement, Ibrahim Sani Shawai, deputy general manager, Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), said the system collapse was being addressed.

“This is to inform our numerous customers that the system collapse at the national grid that led to power outage is being addressed,” the statement reads.

“As at 3:26 pm, 50MW of electricity was wheeled to KEDCO which is being distributed equitably across our franchise.

“We are expecting improvement in supply in the coming hours and days and we will ensure speedy supply as soon as we get more megawatts.”

On its part, Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), in a separate statement, said its interface stations had received earlier on Monday.

As a result, EEDC said there was hope for normal supply across the state.

“This is to inform you that after the system collapse earlier today, September 26, 2022, two of our interface TCN stations at Nibo and Awada received supply at 12:36 pm and 12:37 pm respectively, with a directive by NCC to maintain only 7MW,” it said.

“We are still on standby, hoping that full and normal supply will be restored to all other interface TCN stations.”

Meanwhile, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said the restoration of the affected part of the grid commenced at about 12 noon, adding that the national grid experienced partial system disturbance.

It said the incident was a result of sudden drop in system frequency, which created system instability.

“The national control centre (NCC) said a full-scale investigation is being conducted to establish and ascertain the cause of the partial disturbance as this unwholesome event has resulted in aggregated generation loss,” it said, adding that grid restoration was almost completed.

TCN further stated that restoration commenced at the Osogbo/Ihovbor grid, followed by Jebba/Osogbo, Kainji/Jebba, Benin/Onitsha, Shiroro/Kaduna, Shiroro/Katampe and Alaoji/Ikot-Ekpene.

The national grid had collapsed eight times in 2022 — the last incident being in July. It collapsed once in February, twice in March and April and once in June, 2022.
