‘Is Nigeria a zoo?’ and other reactions to lockdown of Abuja, Kaduna by religious group

Islamic Tijjaniyya movement stormed the streets of Abuja and Kaduna to celebrate Maulud Nabiyy, the birth of Prophet Muhammed, on Saturday.

Rabiu Kwankwaso, a serving senator and former governor of Kano state, was among the notable Nigerians who identified with the movement.

Their activities caused traffic gridlock in Abuja and Kaduna and some of those who mistook the sect members for followers of Ibrahim Zakzakky, leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), attacked IMN on social media.

On Facebook, Frederick Nwabufo, a journalist, wrote: “Abuja has been shut down by some religious folks. The city centre is completely inaccessible. And this is the Federal Capital Territory! Is Nigeria a zoo?”
