Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, has condemned the killing of security operatives by gunmen in the state.

Eight officers were reportedly killed by gunmen at security checkpoints along the Port Harcourt-Owerri road, Ikwerre LGA of the state.

Weapons of the security operatives were also said to have been carted away, while vehicles were set ablaze during the attacks.

In a statement issued on Sunday by Kelvin Ebiri, his special assistant on media, the governor described the attacks as unwarranted and callous, saying there is no justification for the killings.
