Wike sacks FCT-IRS acting chair — weeks after staff honoured him for exemplary leadership

Michael Ango

Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has sacked Michael Ango, the acting chairman of the FCT internal revenue service (FCT-IRS).

Lere Olayinka, senior special assistant to the minister on public communication and social media, announced the development in a statement on Friday.

“The most senior official of the FCT-IRS has also been directed to take over the running of the revenue agency with immediate effect,” the statement reads.

The statement did not disclose the reason for Ango’s sack.

In August 2024, President Bola Tinubu approved Ango’s appointment as the acting chairman of the FCT-IRS.

Tinubu had said Ango brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record in revenue administration, financial management, and organisational leadership.

Last month, members of staff of the FCT-IRS reportedly honoured the acting chairman at an event themed “A night with Ango”, in recognition of his visionary and exemplary leadership.
