Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), says those who once accused him of destabilising the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Wike spoke in Abuja on Wednesday during the flag-off of the construction of the main carriageways of the outer southern expressway from ring road I junction to ring road II junction.

The FCT minister said the former PDP members who have defected to the APC should commend him for working for their current political party.

Wike added that he would soon speak to Nigerians regarding the development.

“I have been watching television and social media. People who said I want to destabilise the party and that I’m working with the APC, all of them now are in the APC,” Wike said.

“If it is true, they should commend me for working for where they are heading to. I should be commended for doing a good job for them. I have told people that politics is for the mature.”

The main opposition party has been in a leadership crisis since the end of the 2023 elections.

The development has seen many PDP members defecting to the APC and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

On Tuesday, Peter Mbah, governor of Enugu, left PDP for the APC.

Barely 24 hours later, Douye Diri, governor of Bayelsa state, also resigned from the opposition party.

In April, Sheriff Oborevwori, governor of Delta state, defected from the PDP to the APC.

In June, Umo Eno, governor of Akwa Ibom, left the PDP for the APC.

With Diri’s exit, the PDP now controls eight states in the country.

Some PDP members had blamed Wike, a member of the PDP who now works in the APC-led administration, for the crisis in the opposition party.
