Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, has promised to give Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), “all logistics support” for his campaign in the state.

Wike made the pledge on Thursday at the inauguration of the Nkpolu-Oroworokwo flyover in the state.

The Rivers governor described Obi as a “humble and straightforward” person who possesses the qualities needed to be president.

“I must confess to you and state clearly that you are a very humble person. You are a very straightforward person. You are a man of integrity,” he said.

“I have watched you, your campaigns. Now, you have humbled yourself like a humble person. I urge you to continue and preach the unity of this country. It is very paramount.

“You have all the characteristics; you have all the criteria to lead this country. Nobody can challenge that.

“Anytime you want to campaign in the state, let me know. All the logistics support will be given to you.

“As somebody who has honoured to come and commission my project without saying that he is not from my party, it means too when he comes here for campaign, he needs vehicles to lead him to some LGAs.

“He is a former governor and a humble presidential candidate. As a state government, we will also give you support to go for campaign.”

Wike, however, added a caveat — that Obi must comply with executive orders 22 and 21 of the state which demand that political parties must apply and get approval before using any government facility for campaign in the state.
