President Muhammadu Buhari has again appealed to Nigerians to exercise patience with his administration regarding the appointment of political office holders.

Addressing Nigerians in the Diaspora in Washington on Wednesday, Buhari blamed the development on the 16-year rule of the Peoples Democratic Power (PDP).

“In some quarters, they are now calling me ‘Baba Go Slow’. I’m going to go slow and steady,” he said.

“The economy is in an extremely bad shape following 16 years of bad government by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which ran down the oil refineries and had the treasury in their pockets.

“Two hundred and fifty thousand barrels per day of Nigerian crude are being stolen and people sell and put the money into individual accounts.

“Corruption in Nigeria has virtually developed into a culture where honest people are abused. We need to put some sense into governance and deal with corruption.”

He advised Nigerians living abroad and searching for government jobs back home to suspend their ambition as a result of the poor shape of the nation’s economy but said his administration would engage some of them as consultants.

Buhari also pledged to study the Diaspora bill with a view to signing it into law as requested by the Nigerians in the Diaspora.

Those who spoke at the interactive session expressed their readiness to assist Buhari in achieving his campaign promises for the benefit of Nigerians.
