The Teranga Lions of Senegal crashed out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup following a 3-0 loss to England in the round of 16 encounter at the Al Bayt Stadium on Sunday night.

Goals from Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka helped England overcome the Teranga Lions who will now take the next plane home.

Senegal had the first real opportunity of the encounter but it was saved by Jordan Pickford, the England goalkeeper.

The Three Lions responded adequately to the wake-up call courtesy of Henderson’s goal from Jude Bellingham’s low cross on 38 minutes.

Gareth Southgate’s men made it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time with Harry Kane finishing off a swift counter-attack for his first goal of the tournament.

Saka sealed Senegal’s exit on 57 minutes with a brilliant finish from Phil Foden’s low cross as England advanced into the quarter-final.

England, 1966 World Cup winners, will face France, the reigning champions, in the last eight following Les Blues’ 3-1 win over Poland.

Earlier, Kylian Mbappe took centre stage with two goals to take his World Cup tally to nine goals in 11 matches, breaking Pele’s record of World Cup goals (seven) before the age of 24.

The 23-year-old Mbappe, who is the current leading goalscorer of the tournament with five goals, also provided the assist as Olivier Giroud became France’s all-time leading goalscorer with his 52nd international goal.
