Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi state, has condoled with the family of Etsu of Bassa-Nge kingdom in the state, over the death of Muhammed Abu Ali, a lieutenant colonel, who was killed by Boko Haram insurgents.
Ali, a brave soldier whose gallantry has been commended, was the son of Abu-Ali, a retired brigadier general.
In a statement issued by Petra Akinti Onyegbule, his chief press secretary, Bello described Ali’s death as “a monumental loss to Kogi state and Nigeria”.
“He was a gallant officer who served the nation with his all and paid the supreme price by laying down his life for the peace of the country,” he said.
Bello maintained that the late soldier will be remembered for his sacrifice and commitment to the cause of the Nigerian Army to rid the country of insurgency.
“Kogi State and indeed Nigerians will never forget your gallantry as you led a team of the Nigerian Army to recapture Baga from the control of terrorists and you death while in active service,” he said.
“Allah giveth and He taketh, from Him we came and to Him we return. May Allah give the Etsu of Bassa-Nge Kingdom the fortitude to bear this devastating loss.
“May Almighty Allah grant late Lt. Col. Muhammed Abu Aljannah Firdaus. Ameen.”
