Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi state, is about to probe failed contracts awarded between 2013 and 2016, when Idris Wada, his predecessor, was in power.

Kingsley Fanowo, chief press secretary to the governor, disclosed this on Wednesday, saying the decision was arrived at during an executive council meeting held on Wednesday.

Fanowo said it was resolved that a judicial panel of inquiry be set up to probe allegations of failed contracts.

“Contracts by CGC Construction Company and many others from 2003 to 2016 will be probed. This is aimed at ensuring the state is not defrauded through contracts that are capable of damaging the economic future of the state,” Fanowo said in a statement.

The statement quoted the governor as saying he will be decisive in tackling corruption.

He also vowed to ensure strict compliance to the 2016 budget, saying there would be no room for extra-budgetary expenditure.

The statement added that the council approved of the state school farm initiative.

“Council approved the school farm scheme initiative to boost food production and impress the importance of agriculture on pupils and students,” the statement read.

“It is believed that the programme will boost the financial viability of schools across the state. The honourable commissioner for agriculture said the scheme will cause agricultural revolution in the state.

“Council made a bold decision to harmonise taxes, levies, rates, fees and charges collectible by ministries, departments and agencies to help boost the IGR of the state, curb multiple taxation and enthrone transparency and accountability.”
