Yewande Oyediran, a lawyer accused of stabbing Oyelowo, her husband, to death, has bagged a seven-year jail term for manslaughter.

A former staff of the department of public prosecution in the Oyo state ministry of justice, Oyediran was accused of killing her husband at their residence in an Ibadan suburb on February 2, 2016.

The accused was arrested and prosecuted but pleaded not guilty to the murder charge levelled against her.

While delivering his judgment on Monday, Muntar Abimbola, a judge at Oyo state high court, ruled that the case was not one of premeditated murder, but rather a case of manslaughter.

The court maintained that witnesses presented by the defence counsel did not provide any evidence strong enough to establish a motive.

Abimbola said the convict’s sentence had started running from the day of her arrest.
