Adamu Dama Dogo, speaker of Yobe state house of assembly, has resigned.

Dogo’s letter of resignation was read by Garba Kurmi, deputy speaker, who presided over the proceedings on Wednesday.

He said Dogo resigned “on personal reasons”.

The house has unanimously elected Ali Machina as the new speaker.

There are reports that Dogo’s resignation might be connected to speculations that the speaker no longer enjoys the support of the lawmakers and could be impeached

Last-minute effort by Ibrahim Gaidam, governor of the state,  to salvage the crisis in the house was, however, futile.

Dogo is bowing out as speaker after more than seven years of piloting the affairs of the house.
