One of the suspects who hijacked the Radio Nigeria, Amuludun FM station, in Ibadan, says they were told that a separate nation has been declared in Nigeria.

TheCable had earlier reported that five suspected Yoruba nation agitators were arrested for allegedly hijacking the radio station in the Oyo state’s capital.

The suspects were said to have invaded the radio station at about 5:30 am on Sunday.

They were reported to have stopped the programme and started making their own broadcast with comments like “Oodua Nation has come to stay”, “Yoruba no more under the Federal Republic of Nigeria” and “United Nations will soon declare Oodua Nation”.

The suspects were later arrested by security operatives.

One of the suspects who spoke when police paraded them said they were asked to take over the radio station by one man identified as “Black Lion”.

The suspect said they were told that security operatives would not arrest them if they invaded the radio station.

“When we entered the radio station, we did not fight or beat anyone. We came for peace,” he said.

“We were told that they have declared Yoruba nation. We were told to go and recover our lands and that the police and army will not do anything against us.

“We are suffering in poverty and there is no money in the land. One man called Black Lion was the one who told us to invade the radio station.

“We were told that officials of the UN are everywhere and that cameras are watching us.”
