Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna, says his administration will continue to build the capacity of teachers and improve their welfare to make the profession attractive to the younger generation.
Sani spoke in a statement issued on Thursday by Mohammed Shehu, his spokesperson, to mark this year’s World Teachers Day.
Sani said the contributions of teachers to the formation of values in society can not be overlooked.
The governor urged parents and other key stakeholders to raise their children and wards to respect teachers.
“Today, on World Teachers’ Day, we celebrate our teachers who educate and shape us to become productive citizens of our great country, Nigeria,” the statement reads.
“As teachers and a crucial contact of authority outside the home, you are highly regarded as not only tutors but also second parents, especially at the primary and secondary levels of learning.
“Indeed your contributions to the formation of values in the society can not be overlooked, and for this, you all must be celebrated today and always.
“With current dire economic realities being experienced by Nigerians, now more than ever, we need your esteemed teachers’ firm but loving hands to circumvent these murky times with your knowledge and expertise.”
He called on teachers to continue to instil the virtues of patience, diligence and contentment in children entrusted to their care.
Sani said the state government has embarked on several interventions and programmes towards improving teachers’ abilities, including the teachers’ professional development (TPD) training for over 8,000 teachers and digital literacy workshops for another 8,500.
