Moses Simon, Super Eagles winger, has apologised to Nigerians over the team’s recent performances in the 2026 World Cup qualification campaign.
Moses played a full match as the Eagles played a 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe in their second game of the qualifiers on Sunday.
The result left Nigeria winless in the qualifiers, having previously drawn Lesotho at the Godswill Akpabio stadium three days prior.
The team’s performance in the first two games of the World Cup qualification round has attracted the ire of Nigerians on social media, with many criticising the players’ dedication to the country’s colour.
Reacting to the feedback from fans, Simon, in a post on his Instagram account on Tuesday, said Nigerians “deserve better” than the Eagles’ results in the last two games.
He, however, said the team would overcome the present challenge and promised they would “come back stronger”.
“Not the result we wanted, but we will surely bounce back,” Simon wrote.
“Big apologies to our fans, you deserve better than the performance against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
“We have overcome so many challenges in the past. And now is the time to reflect and come back stronger.”
Super Eagles are currently placed third in the qualification group with two points. Rwanda lead the group with four points, followed by South Africa on three points.
Lesotho are in fourth position, while Zimbabwe and the Benin Republic are the bottom two teams.
Nigeria must win the group to get one of the nine automatic tickets for African countries to the 2026 World Cup.
A finish among the best second-placed teams would also guarantee a play-off route to the tournament.
