‘Your support for my father honoured his memory’ — Yusuf Buhari thanks Tinubu, political leaders at FEC meeting

Yusuf Buhari, son of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has commended President Bola Tinubu and other political leaders for their support towards the funeral of his late father.

Yusuf spoke on Thursday during the special federal executive council (FEC) meeting organised in honour of Buhari.

On July 13, Buhari died at a hospital in London, United Kingdom (UK), following a prolonged illness.

The late president’s body was flown to Nigeria from London on Tuesday and was buried the same day at his hometown in Daura, Katsina state.

The late Buhari served as Nigeria’s military head of state from 1983 to 1985 and as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023.

Yusuf said the support received by the late former president from when he was sick to his last moment shows he was more than a politician.

“It has shown that he was regarded far more than a politician, but regarded as a friend and a father,” he said.

“To all members of the federal executive council, for the care and befitting burial accorded to our late father, we appreciate you all.

“I also wish to thank the senate president, speaker of the house of representatives, and all the distinguished and honourable members of the national assembly for honouring the memory of our late father during the state burial in Daura.

“Your visits, calls, and prayers symbolise a great honour to the memory of our late father, and we’re sincerely grateful for all the support and solidarity extended to the family.”
