‘You’re talking naked lie’ — UNIBEN VC argues with radio presenter over fee hike claim

Edoba Omoregie, the vice chancellor of the University of Benin, fell out with a radio presenter over a question about the hike in the tuition fees of the institution.

In a viral X video on Monday, the vice chancellor’s voice was high over issues of students’ complaints of an increase in fees.

The presenter had asked Omoregie, who joined via a call, why the school increased medical school fees from about N85,000 to over N200,000 and arts from N65,000 to over N180,000,  but he responded on top of his voice, asking the journalist to do his investigations.

“Before you dey say people, you find out before you use the word ‘jack’,” the VC said in pidgin English.

“You’re a journalist, wetin you don go find out? How many students or parents who have paid these fees have you brought on air?

“I have been monitoring you, you used the word jack up, that is a judgemental statement.”

The reporter insisted, telling him that parents are calling in concerning the hike.

“My friend, listen, we’re now in the digital age, don’t try to deceive the public,” Omoregie said.

“You’re talking a naked lie and you’re using the people.”
