YP candidate Adio accuses LAISEC of ‘manipulating’ LG electoral process

Ayodele Adio

Ayodele Adio, candidate of the Youth Party (YP) in the forthcoming local government election in Lagos, has accused Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LAISEC) of “deliberate manipulation” of the election process.

The Lagos LGA election has been scheduled to take place on July 12, 2025.

In a statement released on Monday, Adio accused LAISEC of compromising the integrity of the election by releasing a “misleading” polling guide barely three weeks to the election.

The YP candidate said the development will restrict party preparedness and delegitimise the entire process.

He added that the political parties now have about a week to submit the names of party agents.

Adio accused the Lagos election umpire of increasing the number of polling units for the election, adding that delineation is the function of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The YP candidate said LASIEC had overstepped its legal boundary by engaging in the constitutional duty of INEC.

He added that the recently released polling guide lists numerous vague locations such as ‘Itedo land” and ‘Ikate land’.

“A polling guide is not an afterthought. It is a fundamental part of election guidelines and should have been released even before the announcement of election dates,” he said.

“What LAISEC has done is not just negligent — it’s an orchestrated attempt to derail free and fair elections.

“This ambiguity is a recipe for chaos and disenfranchisement on election day.”

Tope Ojo, LASIEC spokesperson, is yet to respond to TheCable’s enquiry about the allegations.
