Zamalek of Egypt has dumped Nigeria Professional Football League champions, Rangers, out of the CAF Champions League.

Rangers lost 5-3 on aggregates to exit the championship despite winning their second leg match at home 2-1. They had earlier lost the first leg 4-1 in Egypt.

Tope Olusesi gave the home team the lead towards the end of the first half and with Rangers looking for more goals, they left their back open allowing Basem Morsi to equalise for the visitors in the 71st minute.

The Flying Antelopes continued to look for the three goals that would push the game to extra time but were undone with poor marksmanship on the part of their strikers.

Godwin Aguda gave Rangers a ray of hope towards the end of the game when he scored from the spot but that was the extent of his contribution.

Rangers and Rivers United will now feature in the CAF Confederation Cup playoff for a place in the group stage of the continent’s second-tier competition.
