The Zamfara government has announced the immediate closure of cattle markets popularly known as “Kara” in five LGAs of the state.

Mannir Haidara, Zamfara commissioner for information and culture, said in a statement on Sunday, that the temporary closure of the markets was the outcome of a security council meeting.

According to Haidara, the affected cattle markets include Danjibga and Kunchin-kalgo, Bagega and Wuya cattle markets in Tsafe and Anka LGAs, respectively.

Others are Dangulbi and Dansadau in Maru LGA, Dauran in Zurmi LGA and Nasarawar Burkullu in Bukkuyim LGA.

“This is part of the measures to address dwindling security challenges in the state,” he said.

“The government noticed with dismay the selling and loading of rustled cattle by the suspected members of armed bandits in the affected markets.”

The commissioner said security agencies and the state directorate of animal health and livestock development are to ensure strict compliance with the measures.
