The Zamfara state government has announced that farmers in the state will be given 148,500 bags of fertiliser to boost their production.

Zailani Bappa, senior special assistant on public enlightenment, media, and communication to Bello Matawalle, governor of the state, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

According to the statement, 30,000 bags bags of fertiliser came from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) under the presidential intervention for conflict states.

The bags of fertiliser will be shared among Rice Farmers Association; Maize Association of Nigeria and the National Cotton Asociation of Nigeria.

“A total of 148,500 bags of Fertilizer is being distributed to farmers in Zamfara State,” the statement said.

“A breakdown of accruals showed that 30,000 bags of the product came from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) under the presidential intervention for conflict states.

“The distribution pattern showed that a total of 50,000 bags will be distributed to rice farmers association who are already registered beneficiaries in the state.

“Other categories include the maize association of Nigeria who will benefit from 6,000 of the product and also the national cotton association of Nigeria who are benefitting from 32,000 bags of fertilizer and another 30,000 bags next week.

“Farming activities have picked up tremendously since the initiation of the ongoing peace process in the state and the state is expecting a bumper harvest this season.”
