Zamfara state government has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Jangebe following the violence that erupted after the release of the abducted students of Government Girls Secondary School, Talata-Mafara LGA.

The government also shut the community market to stop activities that “aid and abet” banditry.

TheCable had reported that one person was killed while two others sustained injuries in the violence that broke out between security operatives and some youths in the community.

The youths were said to have staged a protest when the state government officials came to the town to reunite the abducted schoolgirls with their parents.

The youths were said to have expressed their anger with the government and protested kidnappings and killings in the state.

Violence, however, broke out when they were prevented from getting through to the government officials.

Sulaiman Anka, the state commissioner of information, said the curfew took effect from Wednesday.

“Sequel to an unfortunate civil disobedience which took place at Jangebe town after the return of the released school children, the Zamfara state government has approved the imposition of a dusk-to-dawn curfew at Jangebe town,” Anka said.

“This is to prevent any further breach of peace.

“Similarly, there is strong discovered evidence of Market activities in the town that aid and abet bandits activities in the town and neighbouring communities. Consequently, all market activities in the town are hereby suspended until further notice.”
