The Zamfara government says over 1,000 persons have been arrested for violating the executive order in the state.

Bello Matawalle, governor of Zamfara, had earlier signed an executive order restricting the sale of fuel in jerrycans, while weekly markets were closed and movement of livestock beyond the state’s borders was suspended.

However, weekly markets have now been reopened.

Speaking while parading a suspect on Wednesday, Abubakar Dauran, chairman of the taskforce committee on security, said the suspects were arrested through collaboration with security operatives.

According to NAN, Dauran said 100 other suspects were arrested over their alleged involvment in kidnapping and banditry.

He said a suspect identified as Zayyanu Bingi, aged 42, was arrested for allegedly supplying fuel to bandits.

However, Zayyanu denied the allegation and said he only supplied fuel to members of his community who needed the product.
