The Zamfara state government says security operatives are in pursuit of the gunmen who kidnapped some schoolgirls from Government Girls Science Secondary School, Jangebe in Talata-Mafara local government area of the state.

Residents had told TheCable that the gunmen invaded the town at midnight, broke into houses before going into the school to abduct the schoolgirls.

Abubakar Dauran, the state commissioner for security and home affairs, who confirmed the incident, said security operatives have been mobilised to the area.

“I can confirm to you now that we have sadly received the report on the abduction of the students of GGSS Jangebe and right now, I am on my way to the school,” he said.

“At this moment, l cannot say how many students were taken away by the gunmen until l get there, but we have already mobilised security men and members of the vigilantè who are now in pursuit of the abductors.”
