Zulum bans petrol sale in Bama LG over security challenges

Babagana Zulum, governor of Borno state, has ordered the ban on the sale of petrol in filling stations across Bama LGA.

Zulum said the measure was taken after consultations with the security agencies in the state.

Dauda Iliya, media aide to the Borno governor, said the ban is part of the government’s “strategic response to counter insurgency operations”.

The Borno governor warned that anyone who violates the directive will face the wrath of the law.

“I have directed the immediate ban on the sale of petrol in Bama town, Banki, and other parts of Bama Local Government Area with immediate effect,” Zulum said in a statement on Saturday.

“Let me make it clear—there will be no sacred cows in the enforcement of this ban.

“Security agencies have been given strict orders to clamp down on any filling station or individual contravening this directive. Anyone found culpable will be dealt with accordingly.”

Over the past few months, there has been a resurgence of terrorist attacks in Borno.

On May 8, five children were injured following the explosion of an IED in Mafa LGA of the state.

In April, over 26 people lost their lives with three others sustaining injuries, following an IED detonation along the Rann–Kala Balge–Gamboru Ngala highway in Borno.
