Zulum: I’m loyal to APC — defection rumours designed to create political tension

Babagana Zulum

Babagana Zulum, governor of Borno, has dismissed claims that he plans to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

A viral social media post had claimed that Zulum and five other APC governors were finalising plans to leave the ruling party.

Reacting in a statement on Sunday, Zulum described the claim as “fictitious and mischievous”, noting that it was fabricated by political detractors.

“This is entirely false and exists only in the imagination of its sponsors,” the statement reads.

“They are detractors who have made no meaningful contribution to the progress of Borno State or Nigeria.

“It is a classic example of cheap, politically motivated speculation designed solely to distract us and create unnecessary political tension.”

The governor said his “loyalty to the APC remains firm” and that he is focused on the development of Borno.

Zulum called on media organisations and the public to rely only on credible and official sources of information.

“I urge the good people of Borno and the general public to disregard this fabrication. We have no time for cheap politics; our hands are full with the noble task of rebuilding and developing our dear state,” he added.

“We remain resolute in our commitment to serving Borno state under the banner of our great party, the APC.”
