The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has released details of how national team coaches voted in the 2014 African Player of the Year Award.

The breakdown of the votes shows that Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi picked winger Ahmed Musa as his best player in 2014.

Vincent Enyeama was his second choice, Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan his third while eventual winner the Ivorian Yaya Toure was his fourth choice ahead of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Gabon.

Toure, who won the award for the fourth consecutive time, got a total of 175 points from the 39 coaches who voted.

Aubameyang who placed second, got 120 points and Enyeama in third got 105 points.

Gyang was fourth with 94 points and Musa fifth with 78 points.

Enyeama was the preferred choice of Guinea and Swaziland for the player of the year award while 13 countries, including Nigeria, picked him as Africa’s second best.

Twenty-seven countries picked Toure as their first choice with eight others picking him as their second best. Botswana voted him as third best player, while Nigeria and Zambia voted him as fourth best player.

Obviously, Burundi does not rate the Manchester City midfielder highly as he was voted their fifth best player in the shortlist.
