The  Nigerian  Maritime  Administration  and  Safety  Agency  (NIMASA)  has disengaged three persons said to have been illegally  employed into the agency.

According to Lami Tumaka, spokeswoman for the maritime agency, the affected persons were employed during the twilight of the administration of Ziakede Akpobolokemi, who President Muhmmadu Buhari replaced as the director-general of NIMASA in July.

“An administrative investigation conducted by the agency revealed that the employment of the three officers at the twilight of the administration of Dr.Ziakede Patrick Akpobolokemi as director-general did not follow due process required for employment into the civil service,” the statement read.

“Contrary  to  speculation  in  some  sections  of  the  media  that  NIMASA  has disengaged  200  staff  in  its  employ,  only  these  three  persons  whose engagement had wholesome irregularities have been asked to leave.

“Like every federal government agency, the federal civil service rules govern engagement and disengagement of officers in NIMASA.”

Last week, the agency announced that there would be a review of employments, placements and promotions in NIMASA since 2010.

Haruna Jauro, the agency’s acting director-general, had said the exercise was aimed at ensuring proper staff placement in line with existing federal civil service regulations.
