Senate President Ahmad Lawan says the upper legislative will hold another summit in a bid to tackle the country’s insecurity challenges.

Ahmad disclosed this on Tuesday while commenting on a motion debated upon by his colleagues.

Ayo Akinyelure, senator representing Ondo central, had drawn the attention of his colleagues to the killing Funke Olakunrin, daughter of Reuben Fasoranti, Afenifere leader.

The planned summit is coming 14 months after the senate under the leadership of Bukola Saraki held one.

Twenty recommendations were adopted after the ad hoc committee set up to oversee the summit presented its report.

While moving the motion, Akinyelure said the security agencies are not doing to enough to address insecurity.

The senator said a lot of Nigerians feel insecure on roads because of the spate of attacks.

Contributing to the debate, Tolulope Odebiyi, senator representing Ogun west, said if necessary, a delegation should be sent to meet with the presidency over issues on insecurity.

“Continuous killings like this brings a feeling of hopelessness that nothing is being done,”

“If necessary, let’s send a delegation to the presidency to sit and discuss an action plan to be taken.”

While condemning the murder of Olakunrin, the senate urge governors and local government chairmen to cooperate and collaborate with needed logistics in their respective states in tackling insecurity.
