Real Madrid have announced the appointment of their team B coach, Santiago Solari on a permanent basis.

The Spanish club made the announcement in a short statement posted on their website last night, with Solari handed a three-year contract.

“The board of directors of Real Madrid C.F., which met today, 13 November 2018, has agreed to appoint Santiago Solari as first-team coach until 30 June 2021,” the statement read.

Solari, 42, has been interim coach of the team since the sacking of former coach, Julen Lopetegui, at the end of October.

He won all four matches during his two-week interim tenure.

The 13-time UCL champions and its current defending champion are mandated by Spanish football laws to appoint a permanent coach as no interim coach can spend more than two weeks on the bench, a period which ended on Monday for Solari.

The appointment of Solari from the Castilla team of Real is similar to that made by Zinedine Zidane who went on to win three UCL crown on the bounce and a League title in two and half years.
