Cultists burn 65-year-old woman to death in Lagos

Adejoke Adefuye, a 65-year-old woman, residing at 19, Oshinfolarin street in the Bariga area of Lagos, was burnt beyond recognition when suspected cultists on a reprisal mission set the house ablaze on Saturday.

According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the incident happened around 9am.

“Information revealed that the cultist had been terrorising the area since yesterday before attacking the affected building this morning, trapped the occupants inside and set the building on fire,” the agency said in a statement.

“A 65-year-old woman was burnt beyond recognition in one of the rooms.

“She was the only mortality recorded and has been taken to morgue by SEHMU, other occupants of the building sustained minor injuries that have been treated by LASAMBUS.”

The statement added that though the fire was put out after three hours, occupants of the building had been displaced by the incident.
