Aguibou Camara scored the only goal as Guinea overcame Gambia in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group C match at the Charles Konan Banny de Yamoussoukro Stadium on Friday.

Camara netted the winning goal in the 69th minute of the encounter as the Syli Nationals took a step further towards qualification to the knockout phase of the competition.

Guinea were superior in the encounter and were denied in the first half when Mohamed Bayo struck the base of the post.

They continued to probe with patient buildup and found the winning strike when Camara stole in to finish a cutback through the goalkeeper’s legs.

The win puts Guinea in second position with two points behind holders Senegal who have won their two opening matches and are into the knockout stage.

The Teranga Lions defeated Cameroon 3-1 with Sadio Mane scoring deep into added time, extending the unbeaten run of Aliou Cisse’s side in AFCON to nine matches.

Ismail Sarr and Habib Diallo had put the tournament favourites two goals ahead and despite Jean Charles Castelletto cutting the lead, Senegal secured the victory, thanks to Mane’s low shot to the far post.
