Hameed Ali, the comptroller-general of customs, has approved the appointment of six acting deputy comptrollers-general (DCGs) and eight assistant comptrollers-general (ACGs) in the on-going reorganisation of the service.
Wale Adeniyi, spokesman of the service confirmed this in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja.
According to the statement, the new DCGs are: Idris Suleiman (finance administration and technical service); ACG Iya Umar (tariff and trade); and Dan Ugo (enforcement, investigation and inspection).
It added that others were Grace Adeyemo (excise, FTZ& industrial incentive); Austin Warikoru (human resource development) and Paul Ukaigwe (strategic research and policy).
Adeniyi said eight comptrollers were moved up to assistant comptrollers-general (ACG) in the exercise.
The new ACGs are Umar Sanusi (headquarters); Funsho Adegoke (ICT); Mohammed Abbas (board) and Olatunji Aremu (command & staff college).
He added that other officers also Charles Edike (zonal coordinator, zone ‘A’); Abubakar Dangaladima (zonal coordinator zone ‘B’); Azarema Abdulkadir (zonal coordinator zone ‘C’) and Chidi Augustine (zonal coordinator zone ‘D’).
According to Adeniyi, seven other officers were redeployed in the new exercise, including Adesina Odunmbaku (finance and technical service); Robert Alu (tariff and trade); Ade Dosumu (enforcement and drugs) and Monday Abueh (excise & industrial incentive).
He added that the redeployed officers also included Ahmed Mohammed (human resource management); Patience Iferi (strategic research and policy) and Aminu Abba (technical services).
Adeniyi said Ali urged the newly-appointed officers to redouble their efforts to justify their new responsibilities, adding that the changes took immediate effect.
Last week, the agency retired 34 senior officers.
