Amnesty International says the police have killed at least 10 persons since protesters took to the streets last Thursday to protest against police brutality and extra-judicial killings.

The human rights watchdog revealed this via Twitter.

“So far, Nigerian Police have killed at least 10 people since the start of protests against callous operations of SARS,” it tweeted.

TheCable had reported the killing of a young man in Delta state and the brutalisation of another person in Lagos.

Jimoh Isiaq, a protester, was shot dead by the police in Ogbomosho, Oyo state, on Saturday.

Owing to these incidents, aggrieved Nigerians have intensified protests in major cities across the country.

President Muhammadu Buhari had assured citizens that those found culpable of misconduct among the disbanded special anti-robbery squad would be prosecuted.

But the protesters refused to back down, saying they would only stop protesting if their five-point demand is met by government.

On Tuesday, the presidential panel on the reform of the special anti-robbery squad (SARS) said it had accepted the five-point demand of the protesters.

TheCable published the five-point demand which include “justice for all deceased victims of police brutality and appropriate compensations for their families”.
