The chairman of Enyimba, Felix Anyansi-Agwu, has called it quits with the seventh time league champions.

The astute football administrator and chairman technical committee of Nigeria Football Federation decided to quit while he was ahead but said, “intense pressure” led to his decision.

“Intense pressure from people who felt that I have stayed too long as well as consideration for my health are the reasons I felt the right time to throw in the towel is now after seeing the side win an unprecedented seventh league title,” he told supersport.com.

“The pressure on me to quit has been unprecedented despite quality results I have garnered within the period.

“I have given everything in me to see Enyimba succeed and if the place I come from has suddenly begun to hurt some people I think the sensible thing is to give way and allow some other people to come in and manage the team.

“I have set records as chairman of Enyimba and for me whether or not in the service of the club the key for me is the survival of the club.

“Football is a system thing you just need a conducive atmosphere to work and when such condition is lacking you must give way.

“Imagine if your son is always taking the first position in class and suddenly people ganged up by saying that your son’s teacher must be stopped from teaching your son the signal is clear that they are up to something ominous.”

He, however, didn’t disclose his next line of action.

“My God will decide for me,” he said.

In his over 16 years involvement with the team, Anyansi-Agwu led the People’s Elephant to back to back CAF Champions League wins in 2003 and 2004, league titles and Federation Cup shields among other laurels.

His last game at the helm was the 0-0 draw with Sunshine Stars on last day match-38 clash of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos on Sunday.
