Tunde Disu, former Super Eagles’ coach, has commended the team for defeating Swaziland whom he described as “difficult”.

The national team won 2-0 on Tuesday in Port Harcourt with second half goals from Moses Simon and Ambrose Efe to book a ticket to the group stage of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

Then first leg had ended goalless in Swaziland on Friday.

“They have brought a lot of joy to us. The team is obviously in good hands and the introduction of home-based players showed the coach’s confidence in the players fight for jersey,” Disu told NAN.

“I congratulate the entire team and hope they continue to give their best in subsequent matches in the group stage ahead.”

Disu, who coached Nigeria to second place in the 1989 U-20 World Cup in Saudi Arabia, was a coach with national team under Clemens Westerhof in 1990.

Joe “Eriko” Eric, former international player and former coach of the Julius Berger football club, said the victory was well deserved and the players had lived up to expectation against a very determined opponent who were thirsty for glory.

He said he had expected the victory to go the Eagles way and commended the Coach Sunday Oliseh for their performance.

“The players did well, they deserve their victory and all commendations should be accorded to them for playing their best to ensure the team’s qualification,” Eriko said.

“The team had settled down together after their first leg encounter which did not really bring the best out of them, it is indeed a worthy outing of the team.”
