Ten-man Enyimba crashed out of the CAF Champions League after losing 2-0 to Smouha SC of Egypt, but club chairman, Felix Anyansi-Agwu, showed his anger about the officiating of the match.

The two-time Champions League winners won the first leg 1-0 in Aba but bowed out of the competition by 2-1 on aggregate.

Now Anyansi-Agwu points the finger at the match referee for the outcome of the game.

“It was unbelievable to see that kind of officiating at this level. CAF must be told how Smouha used the officials to win,” Anyansi-Agwu said on Enyimba’s official Twitter account.

“We have lost, we have lost, but we must make a formal complaint over the match officials. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.”

Two late goals from Hani El-Egeizi and Hermann Kouao gave the hosts a place in the last 16 on their debut appearance in the continent’s elite club competition.

The match looked as though it was heading the way of the People’s Elephant, but striker El-Egeizi converted a penalty 10 minutes from time before Ivorian striker Kouao scored the winner in stoppage time.

The six-time Nigeria Professional Football League champions felt hard done by after protesting against several refereeing decisions. They played the last 20 minutes of the match a man down after playmaker Kingsley Sokari was sent off.

The Egyptians will now face AC Leopards of Congo in the next round.
