APC holds emergency meeting, may move national convention
The All Progressives Congress (APC) may hold an emergency meeting with its elders and members of the national working committee on Tuesday in Abuja.
A reliable source said one of the reasons for conveying the meeting is to discuss a possible adjournment of the date for the party’s national convention scheduled for December 8.
The source says the meeting will involve top notchers of the party.
APC may shift the primaries in a cat-and-mouse game with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which announced a review of its primary election dates on Saturday.
Parties usually want to benefit from the fall-outs from the primaries of their rivals, ultimately hoping to gain decampees who may be dissatisfied with the conduct.
APC’s dates initially preceded PDP’s, but the opposition party chose new dates after its extraordinary convention.
The PDP picked new dates afterwards, hoping to gain the advantage, but the APC may still have the last say.
There is however a limit, as INEC has fixed December 18 as the last day for the submission of names of candidate for national assembly and presidential elections, while December 25 is for governorship and house of assembly elections.
