The All Progressives Congress (APC) has kept mum over the endorsement of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar by Aisha Alhassan, minister of women affairs.

In a video clip that surfaced on Wednesday, Alhassan called Atiku “Nigeria’s president for 2019″.

Speaking with BBC Hausa after the incident, the minister said she would support the former vice-president if he decides to run for office in 2019.

She also said she did not care if she got sacked by her action.

“Let me tell you today that if Baba said he is going to contest in 2019, I swear to Allah, I will go before him and kneel and tell him that ‘Baba I am grateful for the opportunity you gave me to serve your government as a minister but Baba just like you know I will support only Atiku because he is my godfather. If Atiku says he is going to contest,” she had said.

When contacted to react to the issue, Bolaji Abdullahi, spokesman of the APC, simply said “no comments.”

Segun Oni, deputy national chairman of the APC (south), also said it was left for President Muhammadu Buhari and the party to talk about it at the appropriate time.

“I am surprised that it happened in the first instance, but that is for the president and the party to talk about it at the appropriate time,” Oni said.
