Taiwo Awoniyi, Super Eagles striker, says the team has enough quality players to win the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

Awoniyi spoke in a chat with NAN on Saturday.

The striker was ruled out of the 34th AFCON after suffering a groin injury in November 2023.

Despite his absence, the 26-year-old said no country at the competition is strong enough to stop Nigeria from winning its fourth continental title.

He, however, urged the team to play “as a unit” and conquer Africa once again.

“If we play as a unit, I don’t see any nation at this AFCON that can stop us,” Awoniyi said.

“With God on our side and the quality of players in this present Super Eagles, we will do it again.”

The Eagles are in Group A alongside Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau.

They begin their quest for fourth continental crown against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday before facing Ivory Coast four days later and rounding off the group stage with the Guinea-Bissau tie on January 22.

The team had also suffered further injury blows aside from Awoniyi’s. Wilfred Ndidi, Victor Boniface and Sadiq Umar also pulled out of the compeition due to injury, and Al Hassan Yusuf, Terem Moffi and Paul Onuachu have been drafted as replacements.
