Newspaper Headlines: EFCC revives N772bn alleged fraud cases against 13 ex-governors

Reports on the creation of a presidential panel to review social investment programmes dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.  

The Punch reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reopened money laundering cases against 13 former governors and some former ministers. The newspaper says safety of judges, lawyers and witnesses is causing a delay in the trial of suspected terrorists.

The Nation reports that President Bola Tinubu has established a special presidential panel to audit the financial dealings of the suspended schemes administered by the National Social Investment Programmes Agency (NSIPA). The newspaper says the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has commenced plans to decongest its head office in Abuja.

The Guardian reports that Rabiu Kwankwaso, presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the last election, says he had no agreement with Tinubu on the supreme court judgment on the Kano governorship election. The newspaper says Aliko Dangote, Nigeria’s business tycoon, has commended Tinubu and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited for their support following the commencement of production of diesel and aviation fuel at the Dangote Refinery.

Daily Trust’s cover page highlights the dilapidated state of some of Nigeria’s abandoned railway networks. The newspaper says the army has commenced an investigation into the killing of 11 members of the Ladduga community in Kachia LGA of Kaduna state.

THISDAY reports that supreme court justices berated some judges of the apex court over the quality of their judgments in the governorship election petitions. The newspaper says the CBN is set to relocate some departments in its Abuja head office to Lagos.
