Bandits have reportedly abducted over 50 persons, including Hussaini Sarkin-Gabas, a district head, during an attack on Bagega village in Anka LGA of Zamfara state.

The bandits were said to have invaded the village on Tuesday on motorbikes and began shooting sporadically, while setting houses ablaze.

Three persons have also been reported killed from the attack.

Bello Yahaya, a son of the abducted district head, said two police officers were among those killed. He added that seven persons sustained injuries.

“The injured officers, along with seven other individuals who suffered various degrees of gunshot wounds, are currently receiving medical treatment at a local facility,” Reuters quoted Yahaya as saying.

“Additionally, two critically injured victims have been referred to the Federal Medical Center in Gusau for further care.”

When contacted to comment on the incident, Yazid Abubakar, spokesperson of the Zamfara police command, said he did not receive any information on the attack, but promised to revert when he gets details.

In September, bandits attacked the Federal University of Gusau (FUG) in Zamfara and abducted some students of the school.

The Zamfara state government has said it would not negotiate with bandits terrorising the state, adding that it would wage war against terrorists and criminal elements until they are eliminated.
