Bandits have reportedly killed 10 residents, including Haruna Abale, the district head of Kukar Babangida village, in Jibia LGA of Katsina.

TheCable understands that the incident occurred at about 1:30 am on Thursday.

A source who spoke with TheCable said the bandits invaded the village and began shooting sporadically, adding that many people sustained injuries in the process.

“Yeah, around 1:30 am. Ten people including the village head were killed,” the source said.

Abubakar Aliyu, police spokesperson in the state, in a statement, said the bandits killed nine persons and set five vehicles ablaze.

Aliyu said the command has intensified efforts to ensure the perpetrators are arrested.

“Today, Thursday, 11th January, 2023, at about 0130hrs, suspected armed bandits in their numbers, armed with dangerous weapons such as AK 47, shooting sporadically attacked Kukar Babangida village where they shot and killed nine persons and burnt down five vehicles,” he said.

“Operatives were swiftly deployed as normalcy was restored.

“Efforts are on to arrest the perpetrators of the dastardly act. Further development will be communicated in due course.”
