Cote d’Ivoire goalkeeper, Boubacar Barry, has announced his retirement from the national team barely a month after helping the Elephant to win the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

In the final, Barry saved two penalty kicks against Ghana and beat his opposite number Razak Braimah to make the score line 9-8 and win the game for his side.

The 35-year-old plays for Belgian side Lokeren with “Copa” on his shirt but with his regular name for the national team. Now, he wishes to rest the latter jersey.

“All good things must end. I decided to end my football career with Ivory Coast. I was proud to wear our jersey,” Barry said on his Facebook page.

Barry won 86 caps for the Elephants and appeared in three World Cups – 2006, 2010 and 2014.

He is the second player from the AFCON-winning team to hang his international boot after Kolo Toure made his own announcement days after the triumph in Equatorial Guinea.
