One day after Yemi Osinbajo, Nigeria’s vice-president, visited some Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in Borno state, he is in Adamawa state on the same mission.

He visited victims in the NYSC orientation camp and at the federal medical centre in Yola, capital of the state.

Osinbajo assured the people that the government would ensure that everything is done to resettle them back to their homes.

“The president asks me to say to you that there is hope, great hope,” a statement quoted Osinbajo as  saying.

“The federal government, under his leadership, will ensure everything is done to provide for you and resettle you back to your homes, your work, your businesses and your places of worship.

“But you have to be patient, you have to be patient. As you know, the government has very little money. We are running after all the money everywhere, so that we use it to serve you.

“Everyday, the President is thinking about you. That is why he sent me to come and see, take notes to understand what is going on, to hear from you, so that I can report to him for positive actions. That is why I am here.”

During his visit to Borno on Wednesday, Osinbajo told journalists that he was there to assess the situation ahead of federal government’s plan to relocate the IDPs to their homes.

“I am here on the instruction of the president to do on-the-spot check on the physical situation at the internally displaced persons (IDPs) camps, and to see the true situation around Borno and get to be sure of what exactly is going on,” he had said.

“This I have done; of course you were with us at the IDPs camps, we were able to meet with the people and see how they lived and how they have been taken care of.

“The next phase is resettling the displaced persons in their communities in their homes, that is the most important thing in the next stage, and that is why I am here to understand the financial implication of that project; what are the material requirements, what the logistics will be, etc.”
