The widely anticipated launch of the Big Brother Africa (BBA) Season 9 has been postponed following a devastating fire at the Big Brother House, organisers said on Tuesday.

No one was injured during the fire.

While efforts to secure an alternative house are already afoot, the organisers are now unable to meet up with the September 7 date preset for the launch.

“Due to a devastating fire at the Big Brother house today based at the Sesani Studios in Johannesburg, Big Brother Hotshots will not launch this Sunday (September 7) as scheduled,” M-Net and Endemol wrote in a statement.

“The cause of the fire at this stage is unknown and investigations will commence as soon as it is safe to do so.

“However, M-Net and Endemol are urgently looking for an alternative Big Brother house in which to film the production, as this production has highly technical infrastructure, camera and edit requirements and alternative is not immediately available.”

They keen followers of the show that “every effort will be made to find a solution as quickly as possible to ensure that Africa’s biggest reality show will continue.”
