President Goodluck Jonathan has removed Abba Suleiman as the inspector general of police and appointed Sunday Arase in an acting position.

This was announced on Twitter by Reuben Abati, presidential spokesman.

This development is coming less than five weeks to the end of Jonathan’s tenure, and no reason was given for the decision.

Suleman would be remembered for his controversial decision last year to declare Aminu Tambuwal as former speaker of the house of representatives following Tambuwal’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressives Congress (APC).

Tambuwal’s police aides were withdrawn.

Arase was the head of the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department.

He holds a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in law, as well as bachelor’s and master’s degrees in political science and strategic studies.

He is also a fellow of the Nigerian Defence College.

Lol! The measure you give, same will be measured to you. This IG has been trying to defect to APC since Buhari won! Now, he gets what he deserves! Let them withdraw his security details too! Mbu. You are next!

This is not funny. In order to build a strong national institution, we need to make it more difficult for presidents to remove the IGP at his whims and caprice.the IGP position is just as important as that of the CJN in the dispensation of justice and maintenance of the rule of law. There is a need to insulate the position of the IGP from political office holders’ interference.

Change has come even BEFORE May 29. Those that manipulate elections, rob common people of their votes, demand bribes without God-fear, work for agents of the devil, rule with indiscipline. Oh how one by one, the mighty has fallen, Brig Gen Momoh and AIG Joseph Mbu should see theirs coming.

This disthronement is certainly in connection with the aftermath of presidential elections. Abba did’nt perform as well as Jonathan wanted him to perform. He did not ccoperate fully with Jonathan’s will to use security agencies especially the police to scare the voters in certain states. And during the Orubebe scuttling attempt at the collation center the police did not cooperate either… These are some of the reasons why Jonathan fired him
