Ese Brume won gold in the women’s long jump at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games on Thursday with a leap of 6.56m.

England’s Jazmin Sawyers was second while Christabel Nettey from Canada was third.

It is Nigeria’s first gold medal in this event in 14 years, but it might not have gone to Brume had Blessing Okagbare competed in the event.

It clashed with her 200m race and she opted for the track event, where she won her second gold medal of the tournament.
