Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria’s president-elect, met with former president Olusegun Obasanjo at the presidential wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Tuesday.

This is the first time that both leaders would be seen in public after the March 28 presidential election.

Obasanjo played a key role in the emergence of Buhari, as he received the campaign team of the then opposition party at his hilltop mansion in Abeokuta, Ogun state, despite complaints from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Although he did not openly campaign for Buhari, Obasanjo refused to support the re-election bid of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Buhari was in Lagos to campaign for Akinwunmi Ambode, the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), ahead of Saturday’s election and has since left for Imo state to solicit support for Rochas Okorocha, governor of the state, who is seeking re-election.
